2. The Spartans’ trio of freshmen are starting to heat up

Michigan State’s freshman class has been solid thus far this season, but no one had truly broken out yet and this was an opportunity for these guys to gain some confidence against an inferior non-conference opponent and they did just that.

The trio of freshmen finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists and all three looked solid against the Rockets.

Max Christie is still looking for consistency in his shot, but he showed more confidence on Saturday night, making 4-of-14 shots for 14 points. He also made a couple of threes, was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line and had three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks.

Jaden Akins is the hottest freshman on the team right now and he nearly scored in double figures for a third straight game but he finished with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range. He also had seven rebounds as he was close to converting a couple of put-back dunks. He’s starting to look like the point guard of the future in East Lansing.

Lastly, Pierre Brooks got some minutes and never looked out of place. He took a 3-pointer and missed, but he got to the free-throw line and made both of his freebies.

This trio is heating up at the perfect time and confidence should be high heading into Big Ten play.
