Michigan State football is making a push for one of the best Group of Five players on the transfer market in Jacoby Windmon.

Transfer Portal U is back at it again as Mel Tucker is trying to restock Michigan State football for 2022 and beyond with some of the hottest names on the market.

One of those names is Jacoby Windmon from UNLV.

The Group of Five linebacker is going to be one of the most highly sought-after players on the market this offseason and the Spartans are making a strong push for him.

Michigan State offered him on Thursday and he posted the news to his social media.

Windmon had a huge 2020 season with UNLV, totaling 119 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. That breakout year followed up a solid sophomore season where he finished with 39 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He’s clearly a top-tier pass rusher at the position and that’s what Michigan State needs.

The Spartans could use some defensive help and Windmon would be an instant contributor.

Windmon would fit right in with Michigan State football

Michigan State is looking for guys who can impact the team right away and Windmon fits that description. He has 158 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks in the past two years and Michigan State would welcome that right away.

With Cal Haladay returning, the linebacking unit would be solid in a 4-2-5 look. Add in Quavaris Crouch, Ma’a Gaoteote, and Tank Brown and you have a deep unit with plenty of talent.

We’ll see if the Spartans can fend off other potential suitors.
