Michigan State basketball is gearing up for an important month of December. Let’s get bold with Big Ten play quickly approaching.

Tom Izzo has to be happy with what he’s seen from his young Michigan State basketball team in the month of November. Now that the first month of the season is complete and Michigan State went from unranked to No. 22 with a 5-2 record, it’s time to look ahead to the month of December and a potentially explosive stretch for the Spartans.

Michigan State’s only losses are to top-10 teams and the Spartans don’t face a single ranked team in the month of December so that should bode well, right?

We’ll soon see if the Spartans are contenders if they can navigate this schedule unscathed.

Let’s get bold ahead of a big month of December.

3. No team scores over 65 against the Spartans

Michigan State has six games in the month of December and none of those contests are against elite scoring teams. And we’ve seen what Michigan State can do against high-powered offenses like that of UConn and Loyola Chicago, so it’s fairly safe to make a prediction that Michigan State won’t give up over 65 points once this month.

On the year, when Michigan State holds teams under 65 points, it’s 5-0. When the Spartans give up more than 65 points, they’re 0-2. So you can see how this may bode well

Louisville averages about 71 points per game, Toledo averages 80 but hasn’t faced anyone yet, Minnesota averages just under 70, Penn State puts up just under 69, Oakland averages 67, and High Points scores around 75 points per game. Outside of Toledo, no offense is a massive threat to score 65-plus against this defense but even the Rockets haven’t faced a competent defense yet.

Michigan State has a big month defensively and holds six more teams under 65, making it 11 on the season.
