Michigan State Basketball: 3 bold predictions vs. UConn in Battle 4 Atlantis
1. Spartans will hold UConn under 70 points
This may seem like a wild prediction, but these wouldn’t be all that bold if I played it safe. Michigan State is going to hold a second straight opponent to its season-low in points scored.
Michigan State has actually held three teams to their season-lows, including Loyola Chicago, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan. Butler’s 52 points scored were a season-worst at the time, but the Bulldogs were held to 50 against Texas A&M.
What does this mean? It means that Michigan State’s defense is better than most people give it credit for. The Spartans gave up 87 against Kansas in the opener and they’ve since held four straight teams under 62 points. That’s not too shabby.
UConn put up 115 points in a double-overtime win over Auburn on Wednesday afternoon so predicting that the Spartans will hold the Huskies under 70 seems wildly optimistic, but I truly think this defense will step up and close the door.
Michigan State holds UConn to around 67 points and the Spartans win a close one.
