Michigan State Basketball: 3 takeaways from blowout of Eastern Michigan
2. Marcus Bingham Jr. is the team’s most improved player
There were doubters before the season and even through the exhibition games, but after four games, it’s pretty clear that Marcus Bingham Jr. is the most improved player on Michigan State’s roster.
Bingham nearly had a double-double at halftime with 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks and he added on to those totals in the second half, finishing with 19 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals. He was just 7-for-15 from the floor, but it was nice to see him hunting for his own shots which he doesn’t do often and he finished as the game’s top scorer.
If Bingham can continue to score 10-plus points per game and play stellar defense like he has been, he’s going to be an All-Big Ten player this season.
Teams are having a tough time dumping the ball into the post because of his length and his active hands. He has been a defensive stopper in the post and his length has more than made up for his lack of weight and muscle.
One of these days I’ll write a takeaways post without Bingham mentioned, but he’s been that good for Michigan State this season.
