Down one Joey Hauser, Michigan State basketball didn’t have a problem putting Eastern Michigan away on Saturday evening, 83-59.

The hoops team made Michigan State fans feel a little better after the football team was torched by Ohio State earlier in the day in Columbus.

The second half was a little sloppy, but the Spartans finished the game on an 8-0 run and even got Steven Izzo and Davis Smith in the game. It was a fun game to watch after such a horrid beatdown earlier in the day by Ohio State, and the win makes Michigan State 3-1 on the season.

What’d we learn from this blowout?

3. Tyson Walker is still looking for his confidence

Tyson Walker averaged 18 points a season ago at Northeastern and no one expected him to have that same success in his first year in East Lansing but he’s struggling heavily on offense.

It’s not necessarily that the shots aren’t falling, but rather he’s not even looking for any. He took a jumper against Eastern Michigan and missed and missed a layup as well, but he was fairly non-existent on the offensive side of the ball. And while he’s an excellent facilitator, he has the ability to score and he just hasn’t shown it yet.

On the defensive end, I thought he played well but he was whistled for a couple of questionable fouls and never really got to gain any momentum.

When Walker does find his confidence, he’s going to elevate Michigan State’s backcourt even more than he already has with his added depth and ability to handle the ball.
