Michigan State Basketball: 3 quick reactions to dominant win over Butler
By Nate Rhoades
Michigan State basketball traveled to Indiana to take on the Bulldogs from Butler and the Spartans came away with a dominant 21-point win.
These Bulldogs were a threat from the perimeter and were planning on giving the Spartans a run for their money. However, the Bulldogs were never able to put together a run, and Michigan State controlled the pace and was dominant from the very beginning.
Here are my quick thoughts from Wednesday’s game.
3. Marcus Bingham Jr. is a man among boys
Marcus Bingham Jr. has been the talk of this team whether he would be able to control the paint and not get bullied like in seasons past. He took that challenge head-on against Butler. He took defense to a whole new level against Butler with six blocks and two steals.
He was a force to be reckoned with down low. Butler was never able to establish anything solid down low because Bingham was not letting up and not letting anyone in. This was a game that fans have been waiting for from Bingham. Even though he’s not scoring at a high rate, he still had 10 points. It’s everything else he does that makes him the talk of the team.
Defense will win championships and the performance Bingham gave on Wednesday was everything State fans have been looking for. He was looking like Jaren Jackson Jr. out there with quick feet and active hands on the defensive side of the ball.
Bingham needed to take this step for the Spartans this season. Now if he can continue this play, these Spartans are going to be a dominant team that will be able to compete with all the big name bigs in the Big Ten this season.
