Michigan State Football: 3 concerns heading into top-10 Ohio State battle
Everything is on the line Saturday afternoon in Columbus. Ohio State and Michigan State football are playing for the Big Ten East and a spot in the playoff on Saturday afternoon. The winner is going to be in prime position to capture a division title and represent the East in the Big Ten Championship Game in December.
The loser? Well, the loser is out.
Ohio State is ranked No. 4 for a reason and the Buckeyes probably have a case to be as high as No. 2, but an early loss to Oregon has held them back a little. But there are plenty of reasons to be weary of this top-10 matchup.
What concerns me the most about the Ohio State matchup?
3. The health of Matt Coghlin
If you’re like me, you’re probably extremely worried about the health of Matt Coghlin, especially after last weekend’s game against Maryland.
For two weeks now, mum has been the word with Coghlin and the kicking game and Mel Tucker has said that he’s been working out but the mystery surrounding his on-and-off play over the past couple of weeks has been concerning.
How important is it to have Coghlin healthy? Well, he’s the kickoff guy as well as the field goal kicker and without him on the second extra point try of the Maryland game, backup kicker Stephen Rusnak missed. Not a great sign when your backup kicker can’t even make an extra point. That could legitimately be the difference between winning and losing.
What if the game comes down to making a clutch field goal and Coghlin is on the sideline and Rusnak is forced to attempt it? Not great.
