Mel Tucker, Michigan State reportedly on verge of massive extension
If all goes as planned, Tuck stayin’. According to a report from Justin Thind, Michigan State and Mel Tucker are on the verge of signing a massive contract that would make him the highest-paid African American coach in sports.
Thind’s report actually came from Brian Mossallam and Jason Strayhorn’s weekly YouTube show called “Inside the Locker Room” and they discussed the brewing deal. These two guys are incredibly connected to the program, so this report can be trusted.
And guess what? This shows that Michigan State means business.
Michigan State is being proactive which is something Colorado failed to do in his one year in Boulder which is why he was open to listening to the Spartans.
The Spartans are now at the big-boy table in college football thanks to Tucker and they’re there to stay because of this likely extension announcement (hopefully in the coming days).
Proving that Michigan State is willing to pay top-dollar for a football coach may just put the Spartans in rare air. There are programs like Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and LSU that have the money to pay head coaches whatever they want, and now Michigan State can join the conversation, assuming this deal happens and he is, in fact, the highest-paid African American head coach in sports, surpassing Doc Rivers and Mike Tomlin.
Mel Tucker ready to return MSU to “football school” status
While Michigan State will always be somewhat of a basketball school thanks to Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and his decades of success, its fans have always considered it a “football school” as well. Spartan fans would admit that football success is just as important as basketball success.
Tucker’s contract is a big deal. It shows that Michigan State isn’t messing around and it’s willing to pay the big bucks to compete for football titles.
And Tucker is the perfect coach to lead this program.
Not only does he have the mindset to succeed in East Lansing long-term, but he’s an elite recruiter, fantastic leader, and just an all-around great dude. Plus, he’s incredibly quotable which is just a bonus for the fans every week.
Michigan State is about to return to “football school” status like it was in the golden years of Mark Dantonio and that’s all thanks to the donors who have made this seemingly inevitable deal possible.
