Michigan State football projected to make Rose Bowl after Week 8
Michigan State football got a much-needed bye in Week 8, giving the Spartans an extra week to prepare for No. 6 Michigan on Saturday which should be one of the most intense games in the rivalry’s history.
In fact, this will be the first time since 1964 that both teams are ranked in the top-10 for the matchup and the first time since 2010 in which both are undefeated.
There’s no doubt that Saturday’s battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy will be intense.
But before I talk in-depth about the rivalry game, I’ve been doing my weekly bowl projections for Michigan State since late September and I feel like now is as good a time as any to put them out there because they’re becoming more real with only five games left.
Michigan State got a bye so it remains undefeated at 7-0 and some experts are giving the Spartans some extra love, including New Year’s Six projections for the first time this year.
Where does everyone have Michigan State playing this postseason?
Michigan State football bowl projections after Week 8
I love doing these projections because it just goes to show how wrong everyone was at the beginning of the year when very few experts had the Spartans even making a bowl.
Heck, it took until Week 2 or Week 3 to see Michigan State in the first bowl projections article.
Now? The Spartans are bowl eligible with five games left and a chance to make some serious noise in the New Year’s Six and playoff races.
- Athlon Sports is the first publication I’ve seen this year project Michigan State to make a New Year’s Six bowl. They have the Spartans facing Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
- CBS Sports has the Spartans playing on New Year’s Day against Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl would which be a heck of a matchup.
- College Football News also has Michigan State playing in the Citrus Bowl against Ole Miss which could end up being a shootout.
- The most intriguing of all the matchups is a Rose Bowl projection by 247Sports which has the Spartans pinned against Oregon. This would be fun.
Where do you think the Spartans will end up?
