Michigan State Football: Game-by-game predictions for October 2021
Who would have thought that four games into Mel Tucker’s second season with Michigan State football that the Spartans would be 4-0 and ranked No. 17 in the nation? Definitely not me, but I’m also not complaining.
The Spartans are as hot as anyone in college football and they’re facing a critical month of October which could either make or break their season.
With the upcoming schedule, there’s a chance that Michigan State could win all four games but there’s also a real possibility that the Spartans could go 0-4. The most likely scenario is a 2-2 month or maybe a 3-1 mark, but fans are hoping for 4-0.
Like the team has said on multiple occasions, they’re just trying to go 1-0 every week.
How will the Spartans fare in October?
Western Kentucky scares the heck out of me. The Hilltoppers are just 1-2 on the season, but they have close losses to both Army and Indiana and could easily be 3-0 right now.
Plus, the Hilltoppers have the No. 2 passing attack in the country behind Bailey Zappe and that might just be a problem for the Spartans’ secondary which just lost some depth in Kalon Gervin. There’s a decent chance Zappe will throw the ball 60 times on Saturday and if that’s the case, the Spartans have to hope he’s in the 5-6 yards per attempt range.
Michigan State is going to win this one but it’s going to be really, really close. I think Kenneth Walker III has a big day against this Hilltopper defense that gives up a lot of yards on the ground.
Oh, and Payton Thorne also bounces back.
Final Score: Western Kentucky 30, Michigan State 38 (5-0)
