Michigan State Football: 5 bold predictions for October 2021
Michigan State football is off to a heck of a start to the 2021 season, going 4-0 through the first month with impressive wins over Miami, Northwestern, and Nebraska.
The Spartans are hoping to go unbeaten in the month of October as well before preparing for a huge November. The Spartans will face four quality foes in October, starting with an explosive Western Kentucky team, a rising Rutgers squad, an Indiana team poised to bounce back from a rough start, and a surprising Michigan team.
Will the Spartans remain hot this month?
Here are some of our boldest predictions for the month of October.
5. Michigan State averages 1.5 picks per game
Through one month of play, Michigan State has four interceptions which means the Spartans are averaging about one per game. That number is going to increase thanks to an impressive month of October as the Spartans will pick off at least six passes in the four games this month.
The secondary has been the most disappointing aspect of the defense through a month and a lot has been due to the scheme. The secondary has been playing more off the ball and that has allowed opposing quarterbacks to pick the Spartans apart in short and intermediate routes.
We’ll see the coaching staff trust the defensive backs more this month, playing up on receivers and playing more press coverage. This is going to lead to more picks.
Plus, Michigan State is facing teams without quarterbacks who are prone to making mistakes (well, everyone but Cade McNamara because he doesn’t throw much).
