Michigan State Football: 3 hot takes from overtime win over Nebraska

Michigan State football didn’t look good on Saturday, plain and simple. The Spartans weren’t able to move the ball at all in the second half which led to them falling behind 20-13 before a punt return by Jayden Reed changed everything.

The Spartans didn’t play their best football and still found a way to win 23-20 in overtime thanks to Reed and Chester Kimbrough picking off Adrian Martinez in the extra frame.

Michigan State is now 4-0 after surviving and advancing against Nebraska.

Let’s dive into some of my hot takes following the Spartans’ win on Saturday.

3. This will be the offensive line’s worst game of the season

We aren’t going to see a worse game from the offensive line all season and I can almost guarantee that. Why? Because it doesn’t get much worse than what we saw on Saturday. The line got blown up all night long from blitzes and loaded boxes, making life miserable for Kenneth Walker III who kept getting hit behind the line, and Payton Thorne who was running for his life.

Chris Kapilovic would be the first to tell you that his line underperformed and was not playing its best all night long which means that practice this week is going to be intense.

Never allowing a performance like we saw on Saturday happen again for the rest of the season would be a huge sign of growth for this group and it’ll show resilience because they’ll prove that they can bounce back from a nightmare performance.

We’re going to see the line play much better from here on out, especially after watching film.
