Michigan State Football: Naquan Jones promoted to Titans’ active roster
Naquan Jones was a promising NFL prospect coming out of his Michigan State football days, but he went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was expected to be a Day 3 pick, at best, but he went seven rounds without hearing his name called and signed shortly after with the Titans.
Jones spent the preseason trying to make a name for himself with the Titans but he was ultimately cut and retained by Tennessee on the practice squad.
The cut wasn’t surprising given the fact that he was a relatively raw interior defensive lineman, but his potential was there. The coaching staff seemed to have liked what they saw from him, making sure he ended up on the practice squad to begin the season.
Just two weeks into the year, Jones has been promoted to the active roster, according to a report.
This is a great development for the rookie from Michigan State as he figures to get some action on an apparently thin defensive line in Tennessee.
Michigan State football fans have a new favorite sports state
Tennessee sports teams are already earning a ton of Michigan State fans because of Xavier Tillman and Jaren Jackson Jr. playing for the Grizzlies and now Jones is on the Titans. If he can excel with the Titans, there are going to be some Spartan fans jumping on the state of Tennessee’s pro teams.
Jones had a productive Michigan State career even though I don’t think he ever reached his full potential, recording 77 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and three pass deflections.
It’ll be fun to see if Jones can stick with the Titans and have a positive impact for one of the top contenders in the AFC this season.
