Three games into the year and Michigan State football is already a Top 25 team in the country. The Spartans took down Northwestern by 17 in the opener, beat Youngstown State by 28, and then smacked Miami around and “dragged them into the deep waters” with a 21-point win.

Mel Tucker has this team ahead of schedule, it seems, and Michigan State heads into a huge Big Ten game against Nebraska with a 3-0 record and ranked No. 20 nationally.

But before we can look ahead, let’s talk about the huge win at Miami which really opened some eyes around the country.

Let’s dive into some hot takes from the win over Miami.

3. Kenneth Walker III is a top-three Heisman contender currently

Three weeks ago, only Michigan State fans knew about Kenneth Walker III and it’s because his teammates and coaches were talking him up throughout fall camp and all the way back in the spring. And it only took 13 seconds into the Spartans’ first game of the season for him to get some national recognition as he broke off a 75-yard touchdown run on the first play.

Walker III has since rushed for just under 500 yards and five touchdowns through three games and he’s averaging 8.6 yards per attempt.

Against Miami, he rushed for 172 yards on just 27 carries and he also caught a touchdown pass. He looked like the best running back in the country for a third straight week and he’s even earned the respect of former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III who stated that he’s one of his top five contenders for the award.

Right now, Walker III is right up there with Matt Corral and Bryce Young in the Heisman Trophy race, in my opinion.
