Mel Tucker has done the unthinkable: just 10 games into his Michigan State football coaching career, he has the Spartans ranked in the AP Top 25 and he has three ranked wins.

The Spartans now have four wins as an underdog under Tucker after pulling off an upset over Miami on Saturday afternoon. They marched down to Miami Gardens and beat the Hurricanes by 21 points which had to be unthinkable before the season began.

Michigan State wouldn’t have won the game on Saturday without a few key players and these guys all deserved the game ball.

3. Drew Beesley

I could have gone with a few defensive players here, but there’s one who I truly believe changed the momentum of Saturday’s game. Drew Beesley was responsible for the strip-sack in the second half that led to a Michigan State score to give the Spartans a 31-17 lead.

Beesley’s hit on D’Eriq King was huge and it really changed the outlook of the fourth quarter as the two-touchdown lead pretty much put the game out of reach.

The Spartans needed some stops and Beesley found himself making the biggest one of the afternoon.

But that’s not all he did to deserve the game ball. He had five total tackles and two sacks against the Hurricanes. There weren’t many pressures on King all afternoon, but Beesley found his way into the backfield enough to make a difference.

Other defenders who probably deserved the game ball were Darius Snow, Xavier Henderson, Ronald Williams Jr., Quavaris Crouch, and Cal Haladay.
