It’s no secret that Michigan State did not have anywhere remotely close to what could be defined as a successful season in 2020. While the team did not look competitive in most of their games, there were a few reasons to be positive about where the squad is headed with Mel Tucker at the helm.

First and foremost, he sent a considerable number of players who couldn’t compete at the Big Ten level out of the program and brought in multiple highly regarded transfers from Power Five programs, where they did not get a real shot at playing. A large upgrade in talent on both sides of the ball should have Spartan fans feeling excited about what the team could be capable of this upcoming season.

Second, the returning talent on the roster is going to be developed by Tucker’s tremendous coaching staff, each staff member having a notable track record of developing players. We’ve already seen a large number of impressive body transformations in the weight room, and there is palpable buzz about some players looking vastly improved on the field.

Each position group has been upgraded and improved in the offseason, but today, we’ll take a look at which groups on the team are the strongest. Since last season was so strange and the team has undergone a complete makeover, these rankings will be based on projections and predictions.
