The NBA draft is officially upon us and if you’re a Detroit Pistons fan like myself, you’re ecstatic about the No. 1 pick on Thursday night and the inevitable choosing of Cade Cunningham.

For Michigan State basketball fans, there’s also a reason to tune in and his name is Aaron Henry. He spent three years in East Lansing and is fresh off a career season with the Spartans, forgoing his final season with Michigan State to enter the draft.

Henry averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 2020-21 to lead Michigan State to the NCAA Tournament with a late-season push.

Now he’s preparing to be selected on Thursday night and if it was up to Mike Miller or Dick Vitale, he’d be in consideration for a lottery pick.

But realistically, he’s looking like a late-first or early-second round pick.

Where could he end up?

Three ideal landing spots for Aaron Henry

Henry is going to bring a lot to an NBA team and while he may not be guaranteed a first-round selection and a rookie contract, he could be that Draymond Green/Xavier Tillman type of player who excels on defense which keeps him around.

If Henry can improve that shot, he’ll be a dangerous player in the NBA.

These spots could be ideal for him:

  • Denver Nuggets (No. 26): The Nuggets had a player like Henry with a better shot just last year from Michigan State but they traded Gary Harris to the Magic. This could be a nice replacement to a team with a nice young core who is looking to add some defense.
  • Detroit Pistons (No. 42): I think I can speak for everyone who likes the Pistons when I say this would be a dream scenario. The Pistons could keep Henry close to home and he could help the defensive effort and immediately helps upgrade the wing. He would add to that young core and he would have a bright future with the third coming of the Bad Boys era in Detroit.
  • Memphis Grizzlies (No. 40): The Grizzlies are looking to add either some bigs or some wing depth to complement an already exciting roster and Henry could be just that. Who wouldn’t want to tune into the Grizzlies to watch Henry, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Tillman all teamed up?
