Mel Tucker knows how to sell a brand. Not only has he done an impressive job with recruiting, but he’s trying to improve that Michigan State football image on a national level.

How has he done this? He’s utilized his recruiting prowess to land seven pledges in the last month since the dead period was lifted, he flipped one of the top quarterbacks in the country from Boise State, he’s trending with a top four-star lineman, and he’s setting himself up for a big-time 2023 class all while showing recruits that something big is building in East Lansing.

Tucker selling the football program after 5-6 mediocre years in a row as well as exuding elite levels of confidence and swagger has returned hope to the fanbase.

This is something no one expected this quickly after legendary coach Mark Dantonio retired suddenly last February right after signing day.

The Michigan State brand got another good look from Tucker on Sunday as he posted an elite hype video that recruits are going to love.

The second-year coach called it “my dream” to return to East Lansing as head coach and he went on to say that he wants to show everyone just why the city and university are so special. He also said that he can’t wait for the future of the program which makes it seem like he’s here for the long run.

Hope for Michigan State football has returned

Mel has won over the fanbase multiple times over the past year and a half. When he was hired, he said all the right things at his introductory press conference and showed his love for Tom Izzo during basketball season.

And then he hired a great staff that everyone seemed to get behind and it looks like pieces to the puzzle are falling in place. Then he flipped a four-star USC linebacker commit. He beat Michigan and Northwestern in a pandemic-shortened season and exuded plenty of swagger in the process. He picked up 15 major transfers in the portal while shedding some “dead weight” on the roster.

Now he’s selling Michigan State to 2022 and 2023 recruits during their visits and they’re buying it. He’s picked up seven commitments, including a huge quarterback flip from Boise State, in three weeks and it looks like he’s not even close to done yet.

Hope for Michigan State football has returned.
