Michigan State Football: Ben VanSumeren has never missed leg day (Photo)
A normal person works out regularly and dreads leg day.
Ben VanSumeren is not a normal person.
When Mel Tucker posted pictures of the new Michigan State football transfers getting to campus this offseason, VanSumeren stood out because of how jacked he was. It was clear that he had never missed a workout or a high-protein meal and his arms were the size of most people’s legs.
A lot of the transfers in stood out for their size (Quavaris Crouch is a good example) and that just went to show how much MSU was lacking before the new staff got there and why Tucker had an infatuation with size.
Fast forward a couple of months and a different picture of VanSumeren has surfaced, this time from head strength and conditioning coach Jason Novak.
Just look at his quads.
The Michigan transfer linebacker is clearly built like a truck, but man, has he ever missed a leg day in his life? Every day might be leg day for VanSumeren. Those quads are the size of tree trunks and it’s honestly a terrifying sight.
Will these help him win a starting linebacker job this fall? No, but just imagine what kind of power is behind those legs as they drive defenders into the ground or blockers back on their heels.
Michigan State football strength and conditioning looking up
Novak has been a fantastic addition for Michigan State and he has teamed up with the new staff to get some serious work done. Getting these guys in the weight room in person this offseason will pay major dividends and I think you’ll see plenty of guys bulked up and shredded this season as opposed to 2020 with a pandemic-shortened preseason.
Photos have already surfaced of guys adding serious muscle this offseason and that should have everyone intrigued because it’s a priority for Tucker and his staff.
If you’re not built like a truck, you won’t see the field.
This is the only way to keep up with the Ohio States, Clemsons, and Alabamas of the world.
