It’s been an offseason of constant moving pieces for Michigan State football.

Mel Tucker hasn’t been shy about flipping the roster completely, adding his 2021 recruiting class to the roster as well as 15 incoming transfers.

But even with all of those additions, the Spartans will be thin at certain positions because of transfers out of the program. In fact, they’ve seen over a dozen players leave the program this offseason as they couldn’t seem to fit in or find a spot on the two-deep depth chart under the new coaching staff.

Basically, the 2020 roster and the one for 2021 look vastly different.

With the offseason progressing into summer and fall camp, the roster is getting even more solidified as the most recent Spartan to transfer (Devin Hightower) could very well be the last before the season kicks off — but we also don’t know what will happen this summer.

We know who Michigan State brought in via the transfer portal, but where did the former Spartans end up?

New homes for Michigan State football transfers

More than 20 players have left the program this offseason and most of them have already found new homes.

Let’s take a look at where they ended up.

  • DeAri Todd, DL (Montana)
  • Chris Mayfield, DL (Ohio)
  • Marcel Lewis, LB (Central Michigan)
  • Luke Fulton, LB (Kentucky)
  • Charles Willekes, LB (Arkansas State)
  • Jeslord Boateng, LB (Akron)
  • Julian Barnett, CB (Memphis)
  • Chris Jackson, CB (Washington State)
  • Davion Williams, CB (Western Kentucky)
  • Dominique Long, S (Duke)
  • Anthony Williams Jr., RB (Akron)
  • Rocky Lombardi, QB (Northern Illinois)
  • Theo Day, QB (Northern Iowa)
  • Tre’Von Morgan, WR (Kentucky)
  • Justin Stevens, OL (South Alabama)
  • Devontae Dobbs, OL (Memphis)
  • Damon Kaylor, OL (Ball State)
  • Tommy Guajardo, TE (Bowling Green)
  • Max Rosenthal, TE/FB (Illinois)
  • Jack Olsen, K (Northwestern)
  • Devin Hightower, LB (Uncommitted)
  • Andre Welch, RB (Uncommitted)
  • Javez Alexander, WR (Uncommitted)
  • Jasiyah Robinson, DL (Uncommitted)
  • Jude Pedrozo, LS (Attending Ohio State, not playing football)

Most Michigan State transfers ended up at smaller schools (which is expected from most Power Five transfers who have barely played) with the exceptions of Luke Fulton, Tre’Von Morgan, Max Rosenthal, Jack Olsen, Dominique Long, and Chris Jackson.

Four former Spartans remain uncommitted while one (Jude Pedrozo) looks to have ditched football and is attending Ohio State as a student only — at least for now.
