Miles Bridges continues to make Dan Dakich look ridiculous
Miles Bridges has no game.
Those words were muttered by one of the most controversial ESPN college basketball commentators in recent memory in the middle of Bridges’ impressive two-year career at Michigan State.
Dan Dakich liked to stir the pot and he did just that with those words. He liked to get under the skin of Michigan State players and fans and decided to make a statement with no merit.
Through two NBA seasons, it looked like Bridges was nothing more than a decent role player, and Dakich was probably sitting around thinking he was right, but something clicked in April of the 2020-21 season. Bridges turned his entire career around in the month of April and has carried it over into three games in May despite missing six due to COVID-19 protocols.
The first game back from that six-game absense? Just a 30-point, five-rebound performance in which he hit five threes and shot over 50 percent from the floor, earning Charlotte’s player of the game.
In three games this May, he’s averaging 24 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting well over 50 percent from the floor.
In April, he averaged 19.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 47 percent from 3-point range.
Not bad for a dude with “no game”.
Miles Bridges has turned the corner
No longer is Bridges making headlines for just dunking the ball. No, he’s making headlines because he’s leading the Hornets to wins and putting up big numbers in the process. Plus, he might end up being the first Hornet to ever finish with a slash line of 50/40/80 for an entire season. That’s 50 percent field goal shooting, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 80 percent on free throws.
With just two games remaining in the regular season, he’s shooting 51 percent from the floor, 41 percent from 3-point range, and 86 percent from the free-throw line.
Bridges turned a down-year into a career year in just a couple of months to end the season and if he continues to play like he has over the past two months, he’s going to be in this league for a long time.
Tough look for Dan Dakich.
