Jameson Williams hit the transfer portal this offseason and immediately became the most sought-after receiver on the market. The Ohio State star could find himself playing up the road at Michigan State when his “recruitment” is over.

According to Allen Trieu, Williams is down to seven options, including Michigan State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Florida, USC, and Michigan.

The word on the street right now is that Alabama is the leader and the Tide even received a Crystal Ball for him on 247Sports on Sunday, but Michigan State is right up there. Alabama may be his first option with Michigan State not far behind but it’s hard to turn down Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, especially when they can almost guarantee a national title game appearance and NFL draft selection.

At Michigan State, however, he could have a spot in the starting rotation and could end up being the premier receiver in a surprisingly loaded receiving corps.

Playing time has to be a huge draw to East Lansing.

How Williams would fit with Michigan State football

Right now, there are only two sure starters on the roster at receiver. Jalen Nailor and Jayden Reed are going to start no matter what and then there’s Tre Mosley, CJ Hayes, Terry Lockett, Ian Stewart, Montorie Foster, and Ricky White (assuming he’s still around). Add in a couple of transfers in Maliq Carr and Christian Fitzpatrick and you have a really deep group.

Even with that deep group of receivers, Williams could come in right away and start alongside Nailor and Reed, providing one of the best units in the Big Ten.

Williams, a former top-100 recruit in the 2019 class, had 15 career receptions for 266 yards and three touchdowns at Ohio State but he was somewhat buried on a loaded depth chart. He would be a starter at essentially every other Big Ten school.

Michigan State could use him, and he’s being sold on that.

If he doesn’t pick Alabama, don’t be surprised if he ends up in East Lansing.
