Purdue fans are not happy this afternoon. Just days after rumors spread about Maliq Carr’s departure from the Boilermakers and Michigan State football being the likely landing spot, the 6-foot-5 wide receiver and former four-star recruit made it official.

Rumors ran rampant about a week ago when Carr entered the portal that he planned to transfer to Michigan State to play both football and basketball.

Then there was radio silence.

Spartan fans waited patiently and the news finally came as the former Oak Park High standout posted the commitment on his Instagram.

Judging by his picture, it looks like he does, in fact, plan on playing basketball as well which will also help Tom Izzo add depth to the wing position.

Maliq Carr instantly gives MSU a top-tier WR corps

Carr is the second receiver to transfer into the program this offseason, joining Christian Fitzpatrick and both were top targets from the state of Michigan during their recruiting days.

Both also have size and the ability to make an immediate impact.

Adding two impact receivers to an already-solid corps just proves that Michigan State will likely have one of the best units in the Big Ten.

The Spartans now have Jayden Reed, Jalen Nailor, Tre Mosley, Ricky White, CJ Hayes, Ian Stewart, Terry Lockett, and Montorie Foster to go along with Fitzpatrick and Carr. That’s a top-tier unit, especially since the first two have serious 1,000-yard potential. The next two could reach that mark in the next year or two and the rest add strong depth.

Carr is a huge addition and someone who should immediately upgrade the offense.
