What an offseason it’s been for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball so far. Roster attrition has run rampant and now it’s time for the Hall of Fame coach to make some additions.
Let’s recap the events of the offseason thus far that have impacted Michigan State’s roster:

- Jack Hoiberg transferred to UT-Arlington
- Aaron Henry declared for the NBA draft
- Joshua Langford retired from hoops
- Thomas Kithier entered the transfer portal
- Foster Loyer entered the transfer portal
- The Spartans added Tyson Walker from Northeastern
Yes, that’s a lot of roster movement but it was needed after Michigan State finished the 2020-21 season with a 15-13 record, barely sneaking into the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans will need to figure something out before the 2021-22 season and that should mean more additions to the roster in the transfer portal.
Who could Michigan State basketball add?
Izzo has reached out to guys like Penn State’s John Harrar and Indiana’s Al Durham, but those aren’t the kind of guys who will make MSU a national title contender again.
Michigan State now has two open scholarships so there’s now a spot for a certain five-star prospect who could reclassify and a potential transfer.
