When Mark Dantonio announced that he will be stepping away as the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans, things got chaotic.

Questions such as “Why would he do this?”, “Who will replace him?”, and “What will the future of MSU football look like without him?” came to my head. I was lost as a Spartan fan.

However, when the university announced the hire of Mel Tucker, my worries and frustrations were put to rest. I was happy with the hire. I’m still happy with the hire. For more reasons than one, Michigan State football is in good hands with Tucker at the helm of the program.

Tucker, folks, isn’t your everyday head coach. No, this is a coach who brings about him a different feel. His mere presence changes the culture of a program. Culture is something Tucker focuses on. It’s something he consistently reiterates. He is huge on the culture of this program.

Mel Tucker sees importance of social media

This isn’t the only thing that I like about Tucker, however.

My favorite part about him is his presence on social media.

Social media, if you don’t already know, is the mere tool that drives society. It will be a part of our lives forever. Tucker realizes that, which is why he is so active on his platforms.

Twitter and Instagram are the two he is most active on, however, he has transitioned into video as well. He recently allowed Spartan Vision, a Michigan State video group, to follow him around at practice. He even allowed the crew to record him departing from his home to head to the facility, having a crew member in the vehicle with him.

Michigan State football has never been a program that brings in a ton of four or five-star recruits. That’s just not who we are. But with Tucker leading this program, I expect to see more four and five-star recruits wanting to be Spartan Dawgs. If I was a player, I would want to play for this guy, all bias aside. He cares about his players and this program.

That doesn’t mean I’m saying Dantonio didn’t care, that would be foolish of me. But there definitely is a different feel to this Michigan State football team with Tucker leading the way.
