Offseason hype is tough to buy into, especially after a 2-5 season, but with a new coaching staff in town that seems to be doing everything right to get Michigan State back to relevancy, the optimism is warranted.

It’s refreshing to hear what the new coaching staff has to say about the team and the outlook for the coming season, but they can’t exactly be negative so everything must be taken with a grain of salt.

But usually, when players are hyping up someone, it’s something to keep an eye on.

That’s why a recent video that Michigan State football put out on its Twitter page caught my eye because on multiple occasions, Kenneth Walker III was getting hyped up.

“Y’all keep an eye on my guy nine right here, man,” Temple transfer Anthony Russo said. “That boy is special with the ball in his hands. Check him out.”

Russo wasn’t the only one to say something about Walker III who has only been on campus for a few months.

“That boy (No.) nine, he a problem,” sophomore receiver Ian Stewart said.

When there are multiple teammates in a short video hyping up the same player, it usually means there’s something truthful about what they’re saying. Walker III probably had a huge scrimmage and his teammates are starting to realize the talent that they picked up in the portal.

Pro Football Focus named Walker the fifth-best returning running back in college football earlier this offseason and it makes more sense after hearing his new teammates rave about him.

Not only does Walker III look the part with his strong frame, but he’s making some noise on the field as teammates are ranting and raving. This could be a great sign for the running back room as Elijah Collins and Connor Heyward were also shown in the highlights making big plays.

Xavier Henderson said following the team’s first scrimmage that “the offense looked good” which has been a long time coming.
