Tyson Walker is one of the biggest names on the market and Michigan State basketball could be close to landing him. Here’s why he’ll be a Spartan.

More often over the past 5-6 years, Tom Izzo has reached into the transfer market to add some key players. Guys like Bryn Forbes, Eron Harris, Brandon Wood, Ben Carter and Joey Hauser have transferring in with the hopes of having major impacts on the Spartans.

All of them have shown their flashes while Hauser is still trying to work out the kinks to be an integral part of Michigan State’s future.

Another player could join the Spartans via transfer and this one could have the biggest impact of anyone mentioned above. Tyson Walker is one of the top point guards on the market and Michigan State is looking for one. This could be a match made in heaven.

The current trend for Walker is Michigan State with an announcement coming on Saturday around noon, according to a report.

The two sides have plenty of mutual interest and Michigan State is in a good spot here.

Here’s why Walker will be a Spartan on Saturday at noon.

3. Tom Izzo needs another plus perimeter defender

Losing Aaron Henry and Joshua Langford eliminates two plus-defenders on the perimeter and a potential loss of Rocket Watts (rumors are flying) would mean that the Spartans are down three top-tier defenders. That alone has to be causing Tom Izzo to search for replacements and what better route than the transfer portal?

Tyson Walker has to feel needed by the Spartans because of the losses of the 2-3 aforementioned guards/wings.

If Michigan State wants to get back to those elite defensive ways of years past, it’ll start at the guard position with a guy like Walker. He’s one of the best defenders in the transfer portal and he would be able to keep up with the talented point guards in the Big Ten — he excelled against teams like North Carolina, Georgia and West Virginia this season.

Izzo needs Walker and that alone should be enough to sway him to East Lansing.
