Ahead of a weekend decision, Michigan State basketball is in a good position with Northeastern point guard transfer Tyson Walker.

Tom Izzo is working hard to get his roster for the 2021-22 season set. The first domino of the offseason fell as Jack Hoiberg decided to enter the transfer portal and play his last couple of seasons elsewhere. It may be a small domino, but it frees up a scholarship.

Now the Hall of Fame head coach will await some decisions from his other players about potentially transferring or heading off to the NBA.

Joshua Langford said he played his last game for Michigan State and the consensus on Aaron Henry is that he’ll be in the NBA after this season. There’s speculation regarding a few other players such as Foster Loyer, Thomas Kithier and Rocket Watts, but nothing is for certain yet.

There’s sure to be some attrition, but there also could be some addition very soon.

One of the most important potential additions on the market is Tyson Walker, a transfer point guard from Northeastern who averaged 18.8 points per game this past season and made first-team all-conference and was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year.

Walker has announced he will be making a transfer destination decision “this weekend” and it seems like the Spartans are in good position with him, at least according to one report.

Michigan State could definitely use some point guard depth and experience and Walker would have two more years of eligibility left after this transfer and due to COVID-19, he would be eligible immediately. He would make next year’s team immediately better.

Walker would be the perfect starting point guard to lead the Spartans while mentoring guys like AJ Hoggard and Jaden Akins. And if Watts doesn’t leave, he can go back to playing his natural two-guard position.

Good news could be coming for the Spartans soon.
