Pierre Brooks says Michigan State basketball ‘needs’ Ty Rodgers in 2022
Pierre Brooks is next up in Michigan State basketball’s 2021 class but he might just help Tom Izzo recruit a top target in the 2022 cycle.
Pierre Brooks is having himself quite the senior season at Detroit (Mich.) Douglass and he may even be the next Mr. Basketball winner in the state of Michigan.
But that hasn’t stopped him from looking toward the future.
Brooks should fit in well with the 2021-22 roster and he could have a big role, especially if Aaron Henry leaves, but he’s already talking about the team in 2022-23 and a player who he believes Tom Izzo and the Spartans need to land.
In a recent interview with Zach Schumaker, Brooks was asked about Ty Rodgers and the four-star small forward from Detroit had nothing but good things to say. Plus, he said that Rodgers “needs” to come to Michigan State.
Izzo offered Rodgers over the summer which seemed long overdue and this is a recruitment that has been relatively quiet ever since. There doesn’t seem to be a lean in any direction from the four-star prospect from Grand Blanc, Mich. That could be a good thing if Michigan State got in late and there’s currently no clear leader.
Rodgers is the No. 54 recruit in the 2022 class as well as the 12th-best small forward, according to the 247Sports composite.
The fact that Brooks is pushing to get Rodgers to join him in East Lansing despite playing the same position speaks volumes to how good of a teammate he is going to be. Competition doesn’t scare him away and he looks at it as an opportunity to win championships instead of personal accolades.
Rodgers has some big-time offers from Syracuse, Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland, Louisville, Houston and Florida State, so it’ll be a dogfight to land him.
You heard the man, Izzo, you need to land Rodgers in 2022.
