Michigan State Basketball: 3 most clutch players during 3-game winning streak
Michigan State basketball seemed down and out, but has responded with a couple of wins thanks to clutch play.
The Michigan State basketball team was down and out. With only a few Big Ten games remaining, it looked like they were already out of the tournament. Their only remaining games were against Indiana, Maryland, and three top-five teams.
But like any Tom Izzo team, this team didn’t have any quit in them. Just when everybody thought they were dead, they buckled down and began one of the best stretches of basketball of any Big Ten team this entire season.
They’d beat Purdue, giving the squad some confidence, but nobody saw the next two games coming. This team played their best basketball of the year against Illinois, the fifth-ranked team in the country. They’d follow this with a win against Ohio State, the next most powerful team in the conference.
But these wins didn’t come in blowout fashion. Even the nine-point victory over Illinois maintained a nervous aura all throughout. The win against Ohio State wasn’t comfortable by any stretch. The Buckeyes led for a majority of the game, but MSU stepped up down the stretch.
And down the stretch, this team desperately needed clutch play. They were playing an extremely strong basketball team that wasn’t missing free throws at the end of the game. Big players had to step up in big moments.
Here are the 3 most clutch players in Michigan State basketball’s three-game winning streak.
