Michigan State basketball has had some good luck on Valentine’s Day weekend in the past, but will that continue on Saturday vs. Iowa?

Tom Izzo is due for a really well-coached game after a few gaffes this season in critical situations. He has been knocked for some rotational mistakes dating back to the Purdue and Wisconsin games which may have costed the Spartans a couple of wins. Right now, this team could easily be 12-5, at the very worst.

Unfortunately, the Spartans missed some opportunities and lost the Purdue game which they should have won and blew a nine-point lead against Wisconsin and a double-digit advantage versus Iowa.

Well, they’ll get another shot against the Hawkeyes after nearly pulling off the upset in Iowa City just last week. The Luka Garza Show comes to East Lansing on Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State needs a ranked win in the worst way but will that happen on Saturday?

Connor Muldowney: I think I’m losing it. I’m actually feeling slightly optimistic about this Michigan State basketball team even though they have shown nothing to make me feel that way. Is it because they’re on their first winning streak in a month? Probably. Is it because Tom Izzo is still the coach? Definitely. Never count the Hall of Fame coach out. We learn that every year. This season should be no different. Michigan State finally gets some positive momentum generated with a big-time upset here to bolster that tourney resume. Joshua Langford plays the hero in this one.

Final Score: Iowa 74, Michigan State 77

Carter Landis: If I know Michigan State basketball, now is their time to pull this upset. Iowa has not looked as sharp as they did earlier this season recently, and MSU played them close last time around. The key to beating the Hawkeyes is having Marcus Bingham do his best to slow down Luka Garza, and the rest will figure itself out from there.

Final Score: Iowa 76, Michigan State 77

Jack Williams: Can you feel the magic in the air? It’s finally happening: Michigan State’s big turnaround. NCAA Tournament, here we come. OK, maybe I got ahead of myself there, but Michigan State played Iowa close in their earlier matchup and Iowa basketball is in somewhat of a slump right now. As a fan, how can I predict anything else? The Spartans will hand the Hawkeyes an ugly loss and up their tournament chances.

Final Score: Iowa 66, Michigan State 73

Conner Linsner: Michigan State had a hot start against Iowa last week and then they cooled as the game went on. Stopping Garza will be key (and not fouling him) but Garza does get LeBron treatment so that might be tough. Anyways, Michigan State needs to hit their threes that they create against Iowa’s zone. If they can do that, they have a real shot at winning. That being said, MSU will play a hard game but it won’t be enough.

Final Score: Iowa 90, Michigan State 85

Stephen Robb: Iowa will lose to MSU, and here is why. Iowa plays terrible defense and the Spartans have great wings to take advantage. Tom Izzo may have something with starting Foster Loyer. Yes, Loyer can be a liability but he does know how to get people the ball. Look for the Fran Fade to be in full affect.

Final Score: Iowa 65, Michigan State 75
