Can Michigan State basketball fix things before it’s too late? There are a few ways to correct mistakes and get the season back on track.

After securing wins over Nebraska and Rutgers, it seemed like Michigan State had turned the corner and was heading toward bigger and better things.

And then the Purdue game happened.

Michigan State was up 15 points at halftime before Tom Izzo helped squander a 17-point second half lead, losing to the Boilermakers 55-54. The loss stung not only because it ended a winning streak but also because it was about as avoidable as any loss in the Izzo era. All the head coach had to do was repeat his first-half plan in the second half and he didn’t do that.

Izzo matched Joey Hauser up with Trevion Williams down the stretch which proved to be detrimental to the post defense and the Spartans didn’t have answers.

The lineups were questionable and Izzo didn’t play much of Mady Sissoko nor Marcus Bingham Jr. in the final 20 minutes after they played great defense on Williams in the first half. This loss was squarely on Izzo and it seemed as if he was trying to make things harder for MSU.

Now that the Spartans look defeated following a truly avoidable loss and falling to 8-4 with a horrible matchup with Luka Garza and Iowa approaching, is it too late to make fixes to get back on track? No, it’s not too late, but a few things must be done moving forward.

Let’s take a look at a few fixes that Michigan State needs to make before it’s too late.
