Nebraska stands between Michigan State basketball and a stop to the bleeding. Will the Spartans take care of a mediocre Cornhusker team?

It’s tough to even fathom what is going on with this Michigan State basketball team. There’s no clear leader, the offense has been a mess and the defense has been even worse. A team that started the year 6-0 and was ranked in the top five has now lost three in a row and looks lost.

Now the Spartans will travel to Lincoln to take on a bad Nebraska team and it has to be considered a must-win. If Michigan State loses, we might be looking at a complete meltdown.

Things need to change within this team, starting on Saturday night.

Will the Spartans take care of Nebraska?

3. AJ Hoggard gets the start, scores in double figures

Raise your hand if you’re a big AJ Hoggard fan. OK, now that everyone’s hands are raised, it’s safe to say he’s the best option Michigan State has at the point guard spot. He’s comfortable with the ball in his hands and Tom Izzo even said that he has a little Denzel Valentine in him with the way he can lead a team.

That’s music to all MSU fans’ ears.

Hoggard played well in the blowout loss to Minnesota as he was one of the few bright spots and Izzo said that his freshman guard will probably see the court more.

And I think he starts on Monday as the Spartans go small-ball with him at point, Rocket Watts at the two and Aaron Henry at the three. We may even see Josh Langford start with a really small lineup and Joey Hauser playing center.

Hoggard will start and score in double figures with 12 points and give assists.
