It’s been asked for repeatedly over the past few years and Michigan State football listened. Folks, we are getting a Gruff Sparty helmet.

Everyone stay calm, it’s finally happening. Michigan State is getting a Gruff Sparty look.

Gruff Sparty has long been one of the fan favorite looks and it dates back decades. Some say the logo came about in the 1950s and others claim it was created for Michigan State back in the 1970s — but San Jose State may have actually had it first. Fans fell in love with the look and it’s been a staple of retro MSU clothing for years.

After years of prodding, poking and inquiring, fans have finally gotten their wish as Michigan State football unveiled the new look on Twitter Thursday.

Alright, everyone, pick your jaws up off the floor. This shows us two things. One, the athletic department and Mel Tucker listen to the fans. And two, Tucker is a man of the people. He has rolled out a few new looks and his tweet “let me look into it” wasn’t just words, he meant it.

People may not yet be sold on Tucker as a coach, but one thing is for certain: he loves the fans. He’s trying to make everyone happy and this was one way to do so.

The two top-15 wins including a road victory over Michigan to bring Paul Bunyan home in year zero should have won a ton of fans over, but this might actually do the trick.

Not even a full year in and Mel is giving the fans what they want.
