2. The receiving corps

How can you not like what you’re seeing with Michigan State’s young receiving corps? The Spartans have quite the trio leading the way as three guys have over 200 yards receiving on the season but there are still a couple that have yet to truly break out who might be building blocks for the future.

Let’s start with Jayden Reed who had a breakout freshman season with Western Michigan and then decided to transfer to Michigan State and was forced to sit out in 2019. The sophomore has a team-high 20 catches for 216 yards and two touchdowns. He broke out in the opener but has been relatively quiet since due to poor quarterback play — like they all have.

Ricky White, a true freshman, was one of my picks for a breakout star and he did just that against Michigan with his eight catches for 196 yards. On the year, he has 10 receptions for 223 yards and a touchdown but the future is bright for this kid.

Lastly, Jalen Nailor has had some bad drops and some miscommunications, but he has been overall solid, leading the team with 280 yards and a touchdown on 13 catches. He is burning defenders deep left and right.

Don’t sleep on guys like Tre Mosley, who has been injured, and Tre’Von Morgan as they, too, will be big pieces to the puzzle in the years to come.

The receiving corps have been a major bright spot on offense with their speed, route-running (minus some gaffes in the opener) and hands. Courtney Hawkins is doing a solid job.
