Although his stock hasn’t yielded great results for early believers, Michigan State basketball fans need to buy into Marcus Bingham Jr. now.

We’re at that point in the offseason where fans are buying into some hype and predicting breakout players and it’s time for me to jump in on the action.

We’ve been hearing all about Joey Hauser, Aaron Henry and Rocket Watts and, heck, even Mady Sissoko has been getting some love from fans who believe he’s going to be special, but one guy who hasn’t gotten a ton of love has been Marcus Bingham Jr.

No, Bingham Jr. hasn’t exactly been a stud for the past two seasons in a Michigan State uniform, averaging 1.0 point and 1.1 rebounds in 3.5 minutes as a freshman and 3.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 11.1 minutes as a sophomore. He showed some progress, but his frame and lack of adequate conditioning held him back from a breakout.

Heading into his junior year, it looks like Bingham Jr. has added some much-needed muscle and with Xavier Tillman gone, he knows it’s up to him to step up and take the reins in the post.

As a veteran power forward/center, Bingham Jr. will be looked at to lead the group and he knows that. With a bigger frame, already-solid defensive game and improving offensive outlook, Bingham Jr. could be that breakout star that everyone is hoping for with Tillman gone.

Michigan State needs Bingham Jr. to be that dude in the post and I feel a breakout season coming and maybe he just needed a couple of years to get comfortable and adjust to a bigger role much like Adreian Payne did.

If you’re looking for some stock to buy, I’d recommend Bingham Jr.’s.
