Michigan State football hits the road to take on Iowa in Week 10 but will the Spartans record their first winning streak of the Mel Tucker era?

Traveling to Iowa is never an easy task and the last time Michigan State was in Iowa City was 2013 when the Spartans pulled off a big road win on their way to a Rose Bowl run.

Michigan State gets Iowa in a year with no fans, however. This one will have a different feel than normal Kinnick Stadium with empty stands and the hostility of the environment toned down tenfold. That doesn’t make this road game that much easier, however.

Iowa might be 0-2 right now with a couple of disappointing, avoidable losses, but the Hawkeyes still have plenty of talent. Michigan State is riding high after a Michigan win, but will it be enough to win another road game against a preseason Big Ten contender?

Let’s take a look at what our staff has to say about the matchup.

Connor Muldowney: I’ve gone back and forth with this one. Will Michigan State put that win over Michigan behind it to avoid a hangover? I think Mel Tucker is the perfect coach to keep teams even-keeled, but Iowa just can’t go 0-3 to start the year, can it? Spencer Petras is not great and Rocky Lombardi is playing better than anyone expected, but until Michigan State proves that the Michigan win wasn’t a serious outlier, I’m going with the home team. Iowa’s defense may be the difference here.

Final Score: Michigan State 17, Iowa 20

Carter Landis: The Spartans are going to be riding high off the momentum of the Michigan game, and Rocky Lombardi going back to Iowa is a game that he wants to make a name for himself. Ricky White should continue to play well, and the defense should take care of business.

Final Score: Michigan State 26, Iowa 17

Jack Williams: Similar to Michigan State last week, Iowa will come into the game with nothing to lose. The Spartans will lead for most of the game, but won’t be able to run the ball throughout, crippling the entire offense. Iowa will drive down the field for a game-winning field goal against a team that hasn’t had time to prepare for situational football.

Final Score: Michigan State 16, Iowa 17

Stephen Robb: Michigan State shocked the world last week. Ricky White put on a clinic exposing Don Brown’s defense. However, MSU was filled with confidence in their abilities. Rocky Lombardi says they have many playmakers on offense. We’ll find out this week if that becomes true. Iowa is missing their leading receiver and their ground game is not doing much. Also, look for the MSU ground game to get going. I don’t expect MSU to do too much through the air.

Final Score: Michigan State 31, Iowa 17
