Michigan State football, fresh off a big win over Michigan, travels to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Will the Spartans remain hot?

It only takes one win to revitalize a team and a fanbase. After losing to Rutgers in the season opener, everyone was ready to jump ship on Mel Tucker and the Spartans. A road win over rival Michigan later and everyone is on the bandwagon.

Now there’s a matchup with Iowa at Kinnick Stadium approaching in Week 10 as the Spartans have a shot at posting their first winning record of the season.

It won’t be easy, though. Iowa may be 0-2 on the year with a couple of massively disappointing losses to Purdue and Northwestern, but the Hawkeyes are never an easy win. This team might just be too talented to begin the season 0-3.

Let’s get bold ahead of Saturday’s important road contest.

3. MSU allows less than 350 yards

On the year, Michigan State allows about 370 yards per game and they’ve played Rutgers and Michigan with the latter putting up a majority of that yardage. Iowa has more of a pulse than the Scarlet Knights so there’s a chance that they could break that average, but Michigan State’s defense is going to step up here.

Iowa is struggling in the passing attack this season with a first-year quarterback in Spencer Petras who has just one touchdown pass and three interceptions with under 500 yards through two games. And it’s not like Iowa has faced defensive juggernauts — Purdue and Northwestern have average defenses.

Michigan State’s defense gained some momentum holding Michigan’s “high-powered” offense to just 24 points and under 450 yards so that will carry over here as the Spartans make life tough on Petras and that run game isn’t what it used to be either.
