Michigan State football: An apology to Connor Heyward, Rocky Lombardi
Rocky Lombardi
I don’t actually even know where to start when it comes to Rocky Lombardi. I’ll be honest, I really didn’t think he’d have the type of season that he’s having so far. Even against Rutgers, he looked like a solid quarterback. Both of his interceptions looked to be miscommunications with the receivers and he didn’t do anything glaringly bad.
With Week 2 in the books, Michigan State football has the only player in the conference with two 300-plus yard passing games. One of the biggest knocks that I had on Lombardi was that his throwing motion was, well, weird. It didn’t look like anyone had actually taught him how to properly throw a football and for a while, that seemed like any easy thing to point to when you looked at his 40 percent career completion rate.
Fast forward to today, and it hasn’t really mattered; Lombardi has been sharp. He’s been making accurate deep throws to a relatively new receiving corps of Ricky White, Jalen Nailor and Jayden Reed. More importantly, he’s been stepping up at the right time. He has had more than a handful of crucial third-down throws and timely dimes to Ricky White.
Rocky Lombardi, I’m sorry. You keep doing your thing and if you ever see me tweet that you suck, just give me a few minutes to cool down and think clearly. Also, you should grow out your hair again, it looked awesome.
