Michigan State Football: Brian Lewerke is gone but still getting rivalry hate
Brian Lewerke graduated already but the former Michigan State football quarterback is still getting hate from rival fans.
Brian Lewerke liked a tweet.
That’s it. That’s all he had to do to conjure up about as much rivalry hate, maybe more, as he ever got while he was playing quarterback for Michigan State.
Over the weekend, Devin Bush tore his ACL and like the rest of us, Lewerke got the news from social media. He was on Twitter when he saw the breaking news and liked the tweet, along with thousands of other people. The only difference? Michigan fans took his like personally.
Fans of the rival Wolverines, and even former player Khalid Hill (who definitely jumped to conclusions), bashed the former Spartan quarterback without knowing the relationship between him and Bush. They may not be friends, but no one has any clue if they hate each other or have respect for each other. No one knows. Everyone assumed.
Everyone just assumed that Lewerke hated Bush as much as MSU fans did. But usually that’s much different than that with players in the rivalry.
You can’t just assume he liked a tweet because he wanted Bush to tear his ACL. That’s extreme and no one wishes that upon another person, rivalry or not.
Michigan fans have been bringing up his record versus the Wolverines, his stats, the fact that he had been dubbed (even by us) as a Heisman dark-horse following a breakout season and even questioning him as a person off the field. It doesn’t make sense.
How can liking a tweet that thousands of people also liked make him a bad person? Are all of the other people who liked the tweet also bad?
It doesn’t look great because of how hated Bush was in the rivalry, but Lewerke isn’t a hateful guy. Give this dude a break.
