The 2018 and 2019 seasons didn’t play out as expected, but Michigan State football is getting a fresh start in 2020. What concerns linger?

The 2020 season is right around the corner as we end the month of September and get set to kick off October. Only three weeks stand between Michigan State and kickoff against Rutgers.

It’s been one of the longest offseasons ever and not just because it has actually been with the delay of the season by nearly two full months, but because COVID-19 has shut just about everything down. Sports were cancelled last spring (starting with the NBA and then the NCAA Tournament) and college fans were left wondering “what’s next?” while anxiously hoping for spring football.

It never happened.

Mel Tucker was hired by Michigan State before all of this went down, but after National Signing Day, so he had just about a month to deliberate in person with his team, recruit face-to-face and really just get to know the ins and outs of his new program.

To say things haven’t exactly gone as planned for the first-year head coach would be an understatement, but he’s hoping to shatter expectations in 2020 regardless.

Even with a trimmed down eight-game schedule, there are a few major reasons for concern.
