Every good starting five needs a veteran and while Rocket Watts could be that guy, I’m going with Joey Hauser here because he’s been around the block a few times.

Hauser spent a couple of years (redshirt included) at Marquette before transferring to Michigan State before the 2019-20 season. He was hoping to get an immediate eligibility waiver, but the NCAA rejected it and he was forced to sit out the entire season. He got to work with the practice squad and Tom Izzo had some glowing praise for him.

The junior big man is finally getting ready to take the court as a junior for the Spartans and there’s still a chance a big season could signal the end of his college career as Izzo has said that he is a top NBA prospect on the roster, but let’s just say he comes back for one final year.

Getting a power forward like Hauser was big because he can stretch the floor and knock down threes at a high rate while also playing with his back to the basket. He also has a solid mid-range game.

If Hauser does go pro, don’t be surprised if Marcus Bingham Jr. takes this spot.
