Since Michigan State football hired Mel Tucker as its new head coach, he has shaken up the staff left by Mark Dantonio’s sudden departure.

Football is still tentatively two months away from starting up. But with the Big Ten announcing that they are moving to a conference-only schedule, that may be the first domino to fall in a complete cancellation of the season.

However, let’s not be so negative, shall we? Let’s be naive, assume that nothing is wrong and that college football is going to start on time, and the Spartans are going to kick off the season as scheduled Sept. 5 against Northwestern at Spartan Stadium.

Mel Tucker’s hiring at Michigan State has brought a new culture to the football program, one that carries a certain swagger that the previous regime lacked.

From listening closely to fan suggestions on things like the stadium DJ and uniform combinations, to creating fun social media content, including a podcast with big name guests, Tucker has fans excited for football again.

As soon as he arrived, Tucker shuffled his assistant coaching staff around. No, I’m not talking about assigning incumbents new positions. He actually cut ties with many Mark Dantonio staffers and brought on a few of his own. He did keep some of the old faces on staff, as well as bring on one familiar face.

Let’s look at the three hires that will be most impactful going forward.
