Michigan State football picked up another commitment on Friday from 6-4 Australian punter Mark Vassett who plans on enrolling early.

With Jake Hartbarger gone and Jack Bouwmeester leaving the program this offseason, it only seemed right that Mel Tucker focus on recruiting a punter to the 2021 class and he did just that with the addition of Mark Vassett.

If this is a name you have never heard of before today, that’s because a lot of Spartan fans have never heard about Vassett before his commitment, but then heavy research came into play.

While being the 12th commitment in the 2021 class, he also happens to be the second in as many days and that gives the Spartans a dozen pledges since Davion Primm opened the floodgates on April 7.

Moreover, he’s an Australian punter who trained with Prokick Australia which is where the Spartans actually landed Bouwmeester from originally. He decided to move back home and Michigan State went back to the well and found Vassett. He’s also 23 years old and — get this — he stands 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds. Tucker strikes again.

If you’ve been following Michigan State recruiting, Tucker has made it clear that he wants to recruit size and while that was never a requirement for his punters or kickers, landing a 6-4 punter makes it seem that way.

Michigan State enters the 2020 season with one scholarship punter in UTEP transfer Mitchell Crawford and walk-on Bryce Baringer who returned to the program after announcing his intent to transfer.

Getting Vassett on campus early will be big for the Spartans next year and he will be 24 by the time he starts at Michigan State.
