Some undrafted Michigan State football players had a message for the teams that overlooked them and people who doubted them in the NFL draft.

It was a long weekend for some former Michigan State football players as only two Spartans heard their names called. Kenny Willekes was drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings and Josiah Scott went in round four to the Jaguars.

That left a handful of other NFL hopefuls without rosters and with huge chips on their shoulders. Most of them took to social media to leave a message to all the doubters and teams that passed on them.

The tweet that caught the most attention from any former Spartan shortly after the draft concluded was Brian Lewerke’s.

This confidence will help his catch on with the Patriots and luckily he joined a roster in New England that is thin at the quarterback position. As long as he believes he’s a great quarterback, he can go out and prove that he was limited by injuries and poor offensive coaching at Michigan State.

Joe Bachie was once considered a first or second-round linebacker after his sophomore and even during his junior year, but fell off the board as a senior after he was suspended by the Big Ten for using a banned substance.

No one really expected him to go undrafted, but teams must have been scared away by this development even though he was in the midst of a career-year.

His message to the doubters was short and sweet.

Bachie has since signed with the Saints.

Cody White also hit Twitter with some motivation as he failed to hear his name called. He was fired up and shortly after firing off this tweet, he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.

White would have thrived in Michigan State’s offense as the No. 1 receiver in 2020, but he decided to take the next step after a breakout season. While it may have led to him going undrafted, he did get to sign with a great organization off a Super Bowl win with Felton Davis III also on the squad. That’ll be a fun tandem to watch again.

One player who still hasn’t gone is David Dowell. He didn’t exactly have a message for doubters, but rather for himself.

Dowell didn’t have great junior and senior seasons which followed up a first-team All-Big Ten sophomore year so this wasn’t a huge surprise. Still, he has to go out and prove he’s worthy of a roster spot — he has to sign with a team first.

Like Dowell, Matt Seybert was positive and straight to the point with a little message for himself.

Michigan State fans will wait and hope for a football season this fall and if and when that does happen, they’ll be counting on these guys to live up to their promises.
