The 2020 NFL Draft is upon us and Michigan State football’s impressive streak is on the line. Which Spartan will be selected first?

The NFL draft is officially upon us as this is probably the most anticipated sporting event in decades given the COVID-19 circumstances.

We haven’t seen live sports in over a month and this is the closest thing fans will get to excitement about football with their favorite teams making selections in the 2020 NFL Draft starting on Thursday night and running through Saturday.

For Michigan State, there won’t be a player selected in the first round, barring a miracle, and there may not even be one picked on Day 2, but there is sure to be at least a few Spartans hearing their names called by the end of Saturday.

With no clear No. 1 Spartan prospect, who will be the first to hear their name called?

Let’s take a look at the list of guys who could potentially be the first Michigan State player chosen and break it down:

  • Brian Lewerke, QB
  • Josiah Scott, CB
  • Kenny Willekes, DE
  • Joe Bachie, LB
  • Raequan Williams, DT

There are obviously more with Darrell Stewart Jr., Cody White, David Dowell and Mike Panasiuk also entering the draft, but the most likely candidate will be one of the aforementioned five on the above list.

So who will it be?

Lewerke has drawn some excitement from scouts because he scored a 30 on the Wonderlic and he didn’t have the best offensive coaching at MSU and still produced to an extent. Just imagine what an athletic quarterback like Lewerke could do with good offensive coaching.

Scott seems to be the favorite to go in the third round at the earliest as scouts believe he could be a lockdown-type. I think Willekes could go around the same time frame as Scott and he may have the best career of the bunch in the NFL.

Bachie and Williams seem like more fifth-round guys and later than anything else even though both were once considered Day 2 prospects.

If I were a better man, I’d say Scott goes first, followed by Willekes and then Lewerke. Williams will be the fourth Spartan chosen and then Bachie in the later rounds.

Next. Where will MSU prospects land in 2020 NFL Draft?. dark

Despite winning just 14 games in the past two seasons, Michigan State has developed some decent NFL talent and could have a handful of guys chosen this weekend, starting with Scott.
