Michigan State Football: Where will Spartan prospects land in 2020 NFL Draft?
There are a handful of 2020 NFL Draft prospects coming from Michigan State football this week. Where could the former Spartans land?
Although Michigan State finished the 2019 season with a 7-6 record, needing to win the last two regular season games to make a bowl and then beating Wake Forest, the Spartans did not lack talent.
In fact, the Spartans began the year ranked and many believed that they’d have a decent chance of upending Michigan, Penn State or Ohio State to finish near the top of the Big Ten East, but that simply didn’t happen. The Spartans had a horrid month of October and had to win two straight games against Maryland and Rutgers just to make the postseason.
Still, that talent made some noise throughout the year and while it didn’t quite translate to wins, it did make a name for itself when NFL scouts came calling.
Guys like Kenny Willekes and Joe Bachie were projected first or second-rounders before the season and while that outlook may not have held up, there’s a good chance we’ll see both playing on Sundays next year. Brian Lewerke played well enough to earn some respect from scouts, but did his coaching staff hold him back? Probably.
There are about 10 NFL draft prospects on the Spartans but obviously they can’t all get chosen in this week’s selection process.
