Michigan State Football: 3 way-too-early storylines for 2020 season
3. Who becomes the new No. 1 receiver?
When Cody White made the decision to head to the NFL a year early, that meant one thing for Michigan State: it lost its No. 1 receiver for 2020.
White was expected to have a huge season in 2020 as a senior, but with all the uncertainty within the program and on the offense, he made the decision to go pro. He was coming off his best season as a Spartan so it seemed like he made the decision that was best for him.
However, that left Michigan State in a sticky situation.
No Spartan receiver returns with that much experience. CJ Hayes is the veteran of the group with Cam Chambers transferring and that just means he’s been in the system the longest. He could have a breakout season in 2020, but nothing is a given.
Will Hayes step up as that No. 1 receiver as a veteran or will it be one of the younger guys like Tre Mosley or Julian Barnett or even incoming freshman Ricky White? Heck, it could even be a transfer in Jayden Reed who has been working out hard this offseason, even taking a trip down to work out with Antonio Brown.
The No. 1 receiver will be a huge storyline not just as we approach the season even closer, but throughout the first month as well.
