Which incoming freshmen will have an instant impact for Michigan State football in 2020? Mel Tucker could use these fresh faces.

It’s Mel Tucker time.

Unfortunately, Michigan State will have to put the official start of his on-field era on hold because of COVID-19’s outbreak forcing a cancellation of all sports nationwide.

The Spartans’ spring game has been cancelled and practices have been called off, forcing the student-athletes to head home especially since in-person classes have been suspended and moved online. Heck, even the college basketball season has been cancelled, turning March Madness into March Sadness for fans and athletes everywhere.

With the college basketball season over, that means the next up on the docket is college football this fall. It’s going to be a long offseason with few headlines, but Tucker and his staff will be hard at work even if they aren’t physically with the team.

Speaking of his staff, Tucker has finished all of his hires. He has hit some home runs with guys like Harlon Barnett (DB), Scottie Hazelton (DC), Ron Burton (DL), Mike Tressel (Safeties) and Chris Kapilovic. The rest of the staff is solid but they’re under a more ‘wait and see’ mindset.

That staff will also have to determine which players are deserving of starting spots and which incoming freshmen will see their redshirts burned, impacting the team in year one.
